Career

Julius Jackson appeared in 42 games throughout his collegiate career. He finished with 79 tackles (32 solo), 14 tackles for loss, seven-and-a-half sacks, two fumble recoveries, five pass breakups, four interceptions, and 17 quarterback hurries which resulted in three interceptions. For his efforts, he was signed by the Oakland Raiders following the 2000 NFL Draft as a free agent.

1999 (Senior)

Jackson entered his final year sharing the No. 1 spot with fellow senior Eric Johnson at Will linebacker. Jackson and Johnson split time starting as Jackson started six games (including the Fiesta Bowl) and Johnson started seven. Jackson finished the year with 35 tackles (17 solo), nine tackles for 34 yards lost, five sacks for a loss of 29 yards, two fumble recoveries, two pass breakups, three interceptions and 11 quarterback hurries (one of which caused one interception). Of his two fumble recoveries on the year, one came in the third game against Southern Miss when he scoped and scored on a 16-yard gallop. He also returned an interception for a touchdown against the Golden Eagles. Jackson’s other two interceptions came against Iowa (an eight-yard return) and Missouri (a four-yard return). Jackson tied for second on the team with his three interceptions, but was the only player to take one to the house. He wrapped up his collegiate career in the 2000 Fiesta Bowl against Tennessee where he recorded four assisted tackles.

1998 (Junior)

Jackson played in 10 games at Will linebacker last year, all except Kansas and Missouri when he sat out with a right knee strain. Jackson recorded 24 tackles (nine solo). He had three tackles for loss on the season, one each against UAB, Texas A&M and Iowa State, including sacks against UAB and A&M. Jackson had a career-high six tackles in the season finale against Colorado (two solo). He had four stops and broke up a pass against the Cyclones and had five quarterback hurries on the year, including two against California and Washington. Jackson was second on the team with two interceptions caused and had six tackles (two for losses) against Arizona in the 1998 Holiday Bowl. Jackson served on Nebraska's SAAB committee for the second consecutive year.

1997 (Sophom*ore)

Jackson played in 10 games his junior year and totaled seven tackles from his Will linebacker position. He had a season-best four tackles against Iowa State and his lone breakup of the season. Jackson played in the 1998 Orange Bowl, but did not have any tackles. He served on the Husker student-athlete advisory board and was the Nebraska Big 12 student-athlete representative.

1996 (Freshman)

Jackson played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 1996, recording 13 tackles (three solo). He had one interception (no return) against Missouri and broke up a pass against Baylor. He had two tackles for loss on the year, one against Kansas (one yard) and one against Baylor (three yards). He also shared a six-yard sack with Chad Kelsay against Baylor. Jackson had one quarterback hurry against Missouri. He played in the 1996 Orange Bowl against Tennessee, but did not record any tackles.

1995 (Redshirt)

A scholarship athlete, Jackson redshirted his first year in Lincoln.

Before Nebraska (Gainesville High School)

Jackson put up impressive numbers during his senior season at Gainesville High. Playing for Coach Mike Russell, Jackson totaled 94 tackles, 12 tackles for losses, four sacks and six fumble recoveries en route to being named an All-America linebacker by SuperPrep and Bluechip Illustrated. He earned all-district, all-area and honorable-mention all-state honors. Jackson also played fullback and aided his team to the Class 3A state playoffs, as he rushed for 600 yards and nine touchdowns in 1994 helping lead his team to the regional finals and an 11-2 record. He competed in track, placing fifth in the 300 hurdles at state. Jackson picked NU over Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Baylor.

Personal

The son of Margaret Jackson and Tim Withstone, Julius was born on Nov. 7, 1976. Julius majored in psychology and earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in December of 1999. He was an active volunteer in the Husker Outreach Program and participated in the 1997 NCAA Student Leadership Conference. He served as vice president of the 1998-99 student-athlete advisory board for the Huskers. Jackson was named to the 1998 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team.
