Comeback. In May 2016, Lanes Brands of Bedford, New Hampshire, acquired the Smith Brothers brand. Lanes is the United States subsidiary of Lanes Health based in Gloucester, United Kingdom.

Milk is made shelf-stable (refrigeration not required for storage) by it at a higher temperature. Which is called ultra-high temperature pasteurization, or UHT pasteurization. Traditional milk is heated up to at least 161 degrees for 15 seconds to kill harmful bacteria in the milk.

Since selling the herd, the milk is sourced from co-ops around Washington state, which is then pasteurized, hom*ogenized, and packed at their plant in Kent. Their 50,000 square foot dairy facility includes equipment that can produce up to 60,000 gallons of milk a day.

UHT or 'long-life' milk typically lasts six to nine months in the pantry unopened. Once opened, it should be refrigerated and used within seven days. (UHT) stands for 'ultra-heat treatment' milk – also known as long-life milk.
