What does it mean to be a 5A school in Texas? ›

Class 5A includes an enrollment range of 1,315-2,274 students and it includes 252 schools. The classification cutoffs were released in December.

The region champions will be seeded at the top of the bracket ranked in order by their power ratings. For example if four of the eight region champions are public schools these four schools will have the top four seeds in the 24-team bracket.

In 6-team playoff leagues, the bye week goes to the 2 division winners with the best record, based on Overall Record > Points For > Points Against. Any remaining playoff slots are filled by teams that did not win the division, and seeding is sorted by Overall Record > Points For > Points Against.

In a playoff bracket, each game can count a different amount depending on which pool format you choose. A win could count as 1 point (if you choose "Straight Pick'em") or as many as 16 points (if you choose a "Ranking/Confidence" or "Weighted" pool format). Each incorrect pick will earn you 0 (zero) points.

That gives us a Class 7A composed of schools across the state with 3,270 students or more. Looking at the existing Texas high school sports landscape, 47 schools already meet or exceed the 3,270-student enrollment cutoff.

Playoff Bracket Setup (Standard Settings)

The two BYEs are assigned to seeds #7 and #8 which aren't filled by anyone, thus the #1 and #2 seeds have first-round BYEs.

In the NFL 33 pool format, members are each assigned a unique NFL team (32 members max). Members win when their team scores 33 points. There are usually 4-7 scores of 33 points throughout the season.

Class 6A consists of 249 schools with a minimum enrollment 2,275. Some schools below the 6A enrollment cutoff petitioned to be (or stay) in 6A, like two-time defending 6A Division II state football champion DeSoto, which reported an enrollment of 2,127.

The 4A enrollment range is 545-1,314 students.

Schools with an enrollment range of 254-544 are auto-designated to Class 3A.
